Shagreen

Shagreen, the richly textured hide of a shark, stingray, or dogfish, has symbolized the pinnacle of sophistication and luxury for many centuries. The exotic skin first made its appearance on the hilts of Japanese swords during the Middle Ages and eventually reached its full potential as a fabric in the Art Deco era, covering cabinets, desks, and other furnishings in the homes of French aristocrats.
